Abstract

1,224,270. Feeding sheets. BURROUGHS CORP. 17 Oct., 1969 [17 Oct., 1968], No. 51042/69. Heading B8R. A device for feeding record cards singly from the bottom of a stack of cards comprises a plate 18 which, together with the upper edge of a pivoted upright clapper in the form of a solenoid armature 62, supports a stack of cards in a hopper having a front U-shaped retainer 24 of wire and similar side retainers 26, the armature 62 being biased by a spring 68 against a rearwardly positioned stop member 70, and carrying at its upper end an abutment 74 to engage the rear edge of the bottom card. The plate 18 is formed with a central ridge 52 over which the cards drape to overcome card warpage so as to avoid card jams. A member 58 co-operates with the ridge 52 and members 54 co-operate with feed rollers 38 together to define a restriction suitable for the passage of a single card. In operation, each time solenoids 64 are energized the armature 62 moves from the stop 70 to a forwardly positioned stop 72, whereby the abutment 74 pushes the bottom card forwardly into the bite between the rollers 38 and their respective co-operating members 54, whereupon the card is fed from the stack by the rollers 38 which are driven by a motor 40.
