Abstract
1,224,238. Hydraulic jacks. BERGWERKSVERBAND G.m.b.H. 7 Aug., 1968 [15 Sept., 1967], No. 37734/68. Heading B8J. [Also in Division E1] An hydraulic jack arrangement used as a pit prop comprises an outer part 1 with an inner part 2 provided with a piston 13 and a return spring 15. Hydraulic fluid can enter or leave the prop through a passage 16. The prop is provided with a pneumatic stroke-measuring device comprising a scale in the form of a rotatable disc 17 in a space defined by matching recesses in base 19 of the part 1 and a cylinder cover 20. The disc 17 is carried on a spindle 18 mounted on a thrust bearing 5 and has an upper threaded section screwed through a nut 4 attached to the piston 13. The disc 17 contains small holes 12 through which pairs of passages 8, 9; 10, 11; &c. can communicate with one another, the lower passages 9, 11 being supply passages for compressed air, the upper passages 8, 10 being exit passages. A continuous flow of compressed air exits from passages 8, 10. If a hole 12, Fig. 2, is in line with passages 8, 9 then a substantial laminar flow is created by which energy is transferred and a control circuit (not shown) actuated. If the hole 12 is not so located then a turbulent state is created and no signal developed. In dependence on the particular piston positions binary signals are generated which can be processed in various ways in a control system, e.g. to indicate the piston position.
