Abstract
1,092,422. Hydraulic jacks. NORDAVIATION SOCIETE NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES. Jan. 25, 1965 [Jan. 27, 1964], No. 3267/65. Heading B8J. [Also in Division F1] A double-acting, differential fluid-pressure jack has three stable positions and comprises a cylinder 7 with three portions 8, 9, 10 of which the central portion 8 has a compartment of smaller diameter than compartments 14, 15 in the outer portions 9, 10. A piston 1, with rods 4a, 4b, of length exactly equal to the portion 8 is mounted so as to be able to slide therein and two free pistons 2, 3 are free to slide on the rods 4a, 4b, respectively, in the compartments 14, 15. Fluid under pressure may pass through ports 5, 6, respectively, in the pistons 2, 3 so as to act on the piston 1. A five-way cock 54 is connected to the jack, to a source of fluid under pressure 52 and to an exhaust 53 by conduits 47 to 51. When pressure fluid is fed simultaneously to both compartments 14, 15 the piston 1 is held in its central position, Fig. 1. If the compartment 15 is connected to the pressure fluid 52 and the compartment 14 to the exhaust 53, the piston 1 is held in its extreme left hand position, Fig. 2. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates the piston 1 in its extreme right hand position. When hydraulic fluid such as oil is used as the pressure medium the jack may be locked in any one of its three positions by placing the cock 54 in an intermediate position after setting the jack as required. Fig. 4 (not shown) illustrates a control device for the jack constituted by two independent slide valves (19), (20) operated electromagnetically.
