Abstract

1,223,896. Heating and cooling windows. SULZER BROS. Ltd. 4 July, 1968 [4 July, 1967], No. 32045/68. Heading F4S. A double-glazed window forming at least part of a wall member comprises heat exchangers 5a, 5b located respectively adjacent the top and bottom of the space 4 enclosed by the lighttransmitting walls and arranged so that in operation the upper exchanger surfaces cool the light-transmitting medium in the space and the lower surfaces, in another operative condition, heat the medium. The space may be completely closed, or communication with ambient atmosphere via a pressure-equalizing orifice housing a filter and/or siccative, or the space may be open to atmosphere. The heat exchanger may be formed as shown in two parts, or a single exchanger may be mounted vertically to extend from top to bottom in the space, adjacent one side of the space, or single exchangers may be arranged horizontally adjacent the top and bottom. Apertured deflectors 9, 10, 11 are mounted in the spaec to distribute the medium throughout the space and vertical lighttransmitting partitions which may be of doubleconstruction, may be mounted in the space to form sections through which the medium can flow consecutively. Venetian blinds may be mounted within or separated from the space.
