Abstract

1,223,672. Coated sheet material. J. P. BRENNAN. 23 Feb., 1968 [23 Nov., 1966], No. 52534/66. Heading B2E. A synthetic leather-like material comprises a woven or non-woven base fabric having a raised nap, and in the case of a non-woven fabric being impregnated, with an elastomeric isocyanate addition product, and having a coating of an elastomeric isocyanate addition product bonded to the raised nap such that an air gap exists between the coating and the base fabric. Suitable coating agents and compositions for applying them are described in Specification 1,215,922 and 1,223,673. The coating may be applied as a solution in two solvents, one of which is water miscible or in a solvent/non-solvent system at least on being water miscible and the non-solvent has a lower evaporation rate than the solvent. The coating may contain fillers, pigments or other thermoplastic materials and may be applied by spray, doctor knife or embossed roller.
