Abstract

1,223,460. Ethylene polymers with specific physical properties. CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS A.G. 12 July, 1968 [13 July, 1967], No. 33283/68. Heading C3P. Homopolymers of ethylene and copolymers thereof with up to 10% of a further α-olefin having the following properties: (a) a molecular non-uniformity of 10 to 20, (b) a density of 0À930 to 0-960 g./cm.<SP>3</SP>, (c) an l 5 (melt viscosity) value of 0À01 to 10 and (d) a proportion of material of 35 to 50% of the total which has a molecular weight less than one fifth of the weight average molecular weight of the material, may be extruded e.g. into tubes. They may be obtained using a Zeigler catalyst. The examples relate to the homo- and copolymerization of ethylene with butene-1 using dipropoxytitanium dichloride and ethyl-aluminium sesquichloride as catalyst and in some cases H 2 as molecular weight regulator.
