Abstract
1,229,939. Polyethylene compositions. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 1 Oct., 1968 [2 Oct., 1967], No. 46499/68. Heading C3P. Extrudable compositions comprise a polyethylene of density 0.915 to 0À930 g./c.c., and 2 to 10% by weight of the composition of a high molecular weight elastic ethylene polymer having a molecular weight fraction above 5 million, a weight average molecular weight to number average molecular weight ratio of at least 25 and being (a) an ethylene homopolymer of density above 0.960 g./c.c. or a copolymer of ethylene with at least one C 3-8 α-olefin of density above 0À945 g./c.c. The elastic polymer may be prepared with a silyl chromate catalyst, and may be derived from ethylene with or without propylene or butene. The compositions may contain conventional colourants, stabilizers, slip additives and cling additives, and may be used to insulate wires by extrusion,
