Abstract

1,222,215. Measuring water content in oil. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. July 3, 1968 [July 10, 1967], No.31630/67. Heading G1S. An oil bath (not shown) supplies oil via a pump 12 to a chamber 11 wherein it is heated by a heater 14, part of the heated oil flowing through an open solenoid valve 16 to a bleed pipe 15. When the chamber 11 is full with oil at a predetermined temperature the valve 16 is closed and the heater again operated to raise the temperature to a second predetermined value. The oil now expands and rises up an expansion pipe 17 to actuate a photo-cell 19 and indicator 20 if the water content is above a certain value, the expansion of the oil varying with the water content. Photo-cell 18 indicates that the apparatus is working properly.
