Abstract
1,222,093. Cutting-apparatus; laminating- apparatus. R. BUERKLE, [trading as ROBERT BUERKLE & CO.]. 14 Feb., 1968 [15 Feb., 1967], No. 7180/68. Headings B4B and B5N. A machine for separating workpieces 1 from one another after they have been continuously coated on both sides with webs 6, 7 of plastics foil, paper or textile material from reels 8, 9 comprise rotary cutter rollers 13, 14 arranged on opposite sides of a workpiece with a common drive to both rollers for synchronous operation. The workpieces may be wooden articles, metal sheets, cartons or plastics material panels. The cutters of the rollers 13, 14 may be offset relative to one another by an angle between 3 and 7 degrees. The drive of the rollers 13, 14 has a clutch (31), Fig. 5 (not shown) and a brake (32). The rollers 13, 14 may be adjustable towards and away from one another. A feeler 19 is provided ahead of the rollers 13, 14 and when this feeler engages a gap 18 between successive workpieces, the rollers 13, 14 are rotated so that the cutters coincide exactly with the gap to sever the webs 6, 7. The angular position of the rollers 13, 14 before rotation is determined by means of adjustable stops (35, 36), Figs. 4 and 5 (both not shown), provided on circular guides (33, 34). The feeler 19 comprises a roller mounted on an arm 37, the pivot of which is adjustable by means of bearings 38 and a spindle rotated by a hand wheel 39. The peripheral speed of the cutters may be slightly greater than the throughput feed of the workpieces. To obtain a slicing cut, one or both cutters of the rollers 13, 14 may be inclined relative to the plane of movement of the workpieces. In a modification, the lower cutter roller is stationary and the upper cutter roller co-operates with a removable supporting plate (43), Fig. 6 (not shown).
