Abstract

1,221,945. Sealed beam lamp. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 31 July, 1968 [16 Aug., 1967], No. 37694/67. Heading F4R. [Also in Division H1] In a sealed beam lamp the distorted area or areas of the reflector of the lamp around the point or points where some or all of the electrical supply leads for a filament of the lamp pass through the reflector, is or are non-reflective. These areas are made non-reflective during manufacture of the lamp by masking the areas when the remainder of the reflector is rendered highly reflective by aluminizing. A casing 11 has secured therein a sealed beam lamp 14 bymeans of a clamping ring 13, the lamp being filled with an inert atmosphere. A quartz iodine bulb 32 is mounted in a ceramic holder 26, the leads (24, 25) of the bulb being led through holes (27) in the holder and welded to the supply leads 23 (22) passing through the reflector 15 (Figs. 2, 3 and 5, not shown). The supply leads 23 (22) are joined to conductors 17, 18. The pitch (39) of the bulb 32 fits in between two blades (29) on the ceramic holder 26. On the upper surface of the pinch there is located a shield 41 whose purpose is to prevent light refracted by the distorted portion of the bulb 32 from reaching the reflector. The shield clips around the pinch by means of lugs (42a, Fig. 4, not shown). A shield 46 is located in front of bulb 32 to prevent light issuing from the lamp without first being reflected.
