Abstract
1,221,865. Control of A.C. motors. INSTITUT FUR SCHIFFBAU. 15 March, 1968, No. 12691/68. Heading H2J. A circuit for controlling the speed of asynchronous, wound rotor, machines comprises controllable switch means to conduct current in either direction (thyristors 5a ... 13b) to connect the rotor windings to the stator and hence to the A.C. supply, and a quenching circuit (capacitor 20 and thyristors 14a ... 19b) connected to the rotor, the speed being controlled by the frequency and duration of operation of the switch means. Instead of the thyristors shown the switch means may comprise thyratrons. They may be triggered to short circuit for variable periods of time any two phases of the rotor, or to connect them to any of the phases of the supply. When short circuiting thyristors are quenched the rotor voltage is boosted by inductors 3r, 3s, 3t so that current is fed back into the supply. Capacitors 21 suppress harmonics in the supply, and a number of motors may be controlled by a single control circuit.
