Abstract

1,004,888. Control of A.C. motors. F. SHIBATA. Jan. 24, 1964, No. 3080/64. Heading H2J. An induction motor 1 is braked regeneratively by reversing the supply to its stator, power being returned to the mains 4 by a set comprising series D.C. motor 2 and A.C. generator 3. The secondary circuit of the induction motor comprises variable ratio transformer 6 and semiconductor rectifiers 5 for energizing the motor 2, speed control being effected by adjustment of transformer 6. In a modification, the reversing switches 13, 14, are replaced by saturable reactors. A single motor-generator set may be used with several induction motors, the speed of each induction motor being controlled independently when acting as a generator by a variable ratio transformer in the stator circuit. The variable ratio transformer may be an autotransformer. Adjustable resistors may be inserted in the stator or rotor circuits of the induction motor. The motor-generator set may be replaced by inverters employing mercury arc or semi-conductor devices.
