Abstract

1,221,736. Bonded non-wovens. NORDISKA MASKINFILT A.B. 11 March, 1969 [11 March, 1968], No. 12829/69. Heading D1R. [Also in Division F2] A method of making endless drive belts or conveyer belts includes a first step wherein a narrow bat of one or more carded webs with their fibres, some of which are meltable fibres, orientated in the longitudinal direction of the bat, is needled in a needling machine, and a second step wherein the bat 7 is wound over two rollers 3, 4 either straight or, as shown, with a lead equal to a fraction of the bat width, the overlapped windings being needled together in a needling machine 5, after which hot air is blown through the windings to melt together said meltable fibres to dimensionally stabilize the web. The 'thin edges 16 of the web are trimmed off and the main web is sliced longitudinally into separate belts. The bat may receive hot air treatment additionally during the first step. Transverse strength of the belts may be improved by applying to one or both sides of the belts produced by the second step, bats having transversely oriented fibres. These are needled on to the belts and further hot air treatment, or impregnation with synthetic resin, applied.
