Abstract

1,221,724. Screening suit. CENTRAL ELECTRICITY GENERATING BOARD. 8 Sept., 1969 [7 June, 1968], No. 27175/68. Heading A3V. A screening suit including a hood is formed throughout of textile fabric with a mesh network of metal conductors woven into the fabric, therebeing electrical contact at each crossing point of the mesh, and strips of metal foil or conducting ribbon (e.g. textile material with metallic threads) in seams of the fabric electrically connected together and to the conductors to provide higher conductance paths between the extremities of the suit, the strips being additionally all connected to at least one strip directly connected to a terminal connection for an external lead. The suit comprises a one piece garment with gloves 11 and socks 12 and is made of flame proof cotton fabric with a stainless steel mesh and aluminium foil strips 14, 15, 16 extending from the legs, arms and hood 17 and suit front respectively to the terminal block 13. As well as providing conducting paths the strips also serve to reinforce the cotton fabric and may have, Fig. 3, not shown, two portions (25, 26) of the fabric overlapped with a strip 27 folded into a S-section along the region of overlap of the folded edges of the portions. Extensions 14a, 15a of the strips 14, 15 extend to the glove-thumbs and socks, which are electrically attached to the arms and legs by press-studs or by tying attached conducting ribbons. A flap 24 on the hood 17 covers the face of the wearer. The external lead 18 extends from the terminal 13 to a metal clasp 19 at the end of a safety rope attached to a belt 21.
