Abstract

1,221,572. Printed circuits; capacitors. RCA CORPORATION. 25 Feb., 1969 [26 June, 1968], No. 9949/69. Headings HIM and HlR. An electric circuit which includes a thin capacitor chip is formed by providing a conductive contact 22 to a surface portion of a substrate 24, attaching the capacitor chip 10 to the contact 22, printing over at least one edge of the chip a liquid plastic dielectric material 26 and screen-printing a layer of conductive material 28 over the top surface of the chip and plastic dielectric material. The capacitor chip 10 comprises a ceramic dielectric 12 coated on its respective surfaces 14 and 16 with a silver-palladium-glass metallizer 18, 20. Alternatively, gold-platinum or silver-platinum mixtures may be applied. A substrate 24 has bottom conductor 22 formed thereon by screenprinting a conductive ink and chip 10 is mounted thereon whilst the ink is still wet. A silicone resin plastics material 26 is then screened on to the substrate, Fig. 4 (not shown). Conductor 28 is then screen-printed across the insulating bridge into contact with the top plate 18 of the chip 10. Finally, the assembly is fired.
