Abstract

1372901 Printed Circuits INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 30 Oct 1972 [2 Dec 1971] 49924/72 Heading H1R An electrical interconnection structure for a printed circuit board includes a ceramic substrate 10 with conductive through paths 14 extending to a surface of the substrate, the surface-adjacent portions 20 of each path being of a denser material than the remainder of the path material 22. The material of the portion 20 may be of an alumina ceramic mixed with molybdenum or tungsten, prepared as a fine powder and sintered in situ. The portion 20 may be 4 to 18 mils thick. The remaining portion 22 may be suitable for a later cavity fill process as described in Specification 1,173,745. The surface may be covered by a glass layer 12, a contact 13 protecting the surface of portion 20. The substrate may be formed from stacked green ceramic sheets, carrying conductive patterns, sintered together.
