Abstract

[Also in Divisions B1 and B8] Mixing - Apparatus for mixing a particulate material with a liquid comprises a mixing chamber 6, a hopper 16 for the powder a reservoir 2 for the liquid and a float switch 35, 36 in the mixing chamber to start and stop a motor 9 which operates a liquid metering pump 4, a rotary metering discharge device 19 for the hopper, and a device 31 for shaking or jolting the hopper. The contents of the mixing chamber are agitated by the pump discharge and by a stirrer 38. More than one hopper and/or liquid reservoir may be provided. The reservoir 2 is heated by a thermostatically controlled heater 3 and the mixing chamber is warmed by conduction from the reservoir. Animal feeding - The materials mixed may be milk powder and water preferably at 100F. and a mixing chamber discharge line 40 may be connected to a teat or teats placed above the mixture level to prevent siphonage. A by-pass line from the pump may enable the connecting lines to be washed out with water from the reservoir 2.
