Abstract
1,212,601. Feeding animals. F. WEYHAUSEN & CO. MASCHINENFABRIK G.m.b.H. 31 Jan., 1968 [16 June, 1967], No. 4900/68. Heading A1M. [Also Divisions B1 and G1] Apparatus for mixing a liquid and a powder comprises a mixing vessel 4 supported on one arm of a balance beam 8 on the other arm of which is slidable a weight 5 below which is freely suspended a second weight 6. Powder is supplied from a resiliently suspended hopper 11 by a vibrator 10, the rate of supply being adjustable by shutter 13; and liquid from a constant level tank 18 the temperature of which is thermostatically controlled. As mixture is withdrawn from vessel 4 the other end of the balance beam 8 sinks until the weight 6 strikes the base 7. Further mixture equal to that of the weight 6 can then be withdrawn, when the balance beam sinks again. During this last movement the microswitch 9 closes mixture outlet solenoid valve 2 and actuates vibrator 10, feeding powder into vessel 4 until balance is restored, when microswitch 9 switches off vibrator 10 and energizes time switch 14, which starts mixing motor 14 and opens solenoid valve 16 to supply water for a predetermined period; after which valve 16 is closed and valve 2 opened. As described the apparatus is applied to the mixing of powdered milk and water for supply to an animal feeding teat 1a but the invention can also be applied to automatic coffee and cocoa machines.
