Beverage materials are added in pellet or lump form to hot liquid in a drinking container 11, standing on a resilient support, which is thereafter vibrated at a high frequency by an electromagnet 19 to promote dissolution of the materials. The apparatus may be coin operated and, after hot water or milk have been added to container 11 from tank 12, solenoid operated feeders 14 are rotated to strip the lowermost pellets 10 and drop them into the container. Alternative methods of dissolving the materials are referred to and include stirring the liquid or crushing the lumps or pellets beneath the surface of the liquid. The use of a solid stick of material, from which lumps are broken as required, is also referred to.
