Abstract

1,221,176. Gas blast switches. " COQ " N.V. 19 June, 1969 [20 June, 1968], No. 31097/69. Heading HlN. In a metal-clad gas blast circuit breaker of the kind in which separable contacts 4-6 are located in a high-pressure gas-filled chamber 17 and when open permit a flow of extinguishing gas through the contacts into a lower pressure gas-filled chamber 20 which is vented to atmosphere by a pressure relief valve 26, the valve 26 is prevented from opening should the pressures in the high pressure chamber or the low pressure chamber fall below minimum values dependent upon the necessary insulation. The valve 26 normally allows gas to escape from chamber 20, if the pressure exceeds a value set by a spring 25, by a conduit 24 and silencer 28. If the pressure in chamber 20 falls below a value set by a spring 30 the latter pushes up a valve 29 to close conduit 24 and prevent any further leakage through relief valve 26. If the high pressure falls below a value set by spring 43, valve 37 changes over and a piston 31 is driven up to again close valve 29. Metal cooling rings are contained in chambers 9, 10 between the nozzle contacts 4, 5 and low pressure chamber 20.
