Abstract
1296642 Gas blast circuit breakers BROWN BOVERI & CIE AG 21 May 1971 [22 May 1970] 16481/71 Heading H1N A gas blast circuit breaker has a movable contact 1 and a spring loaded nozzle contact 2. When, on opening, contact 1 moves away from contact 2, the spring 3 moves contact 2 a distance a but valve sleeve 9 is held by the engagement of balls 16 in a groove 19. The seal between seating 8 and valve sleeve 9 is thus broken and a gas blast passes from high pressure chamber 4 through contact 2 to low pressure chamber 21. The blast bears against flange 23 onlocking sleeve 17, moving it towards the right so that balls 16 move outwards into recesses 24, in sleeve 17, and the valve 9 is freed and reclosed by spring 3. On moving in a closing direction, contact 1 pushes contact 2 and valve 9 back to the closed position, where balls 16 re-engage groove 19 and lock the valve sleeve 9' in position. The gas blast may be vented to atmosphere via passage 25 or may pass to a' compressor and thence back to the high pressure chamber 4.
