A liquid composition for eliminating pollution from water comprises a self-emulsionating non- ionic surfactant in an amount of 10-30 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of liquid composition in admixture with an anionic surfactant and a higher alcohol containing at least six carbons. The non-ionic surfactant may be an alkyl- or alkylphenyl-polyethylenglycol ether of the formula wherein R is C 8-10 alkyl and n is 4-20 or of formula wherein R 1 is C 10-18 alkyl and m is 10-40; the anionic surfactant may be an alkali metal salt of an alkylsulphonic acid (C 10-18 alkyl), an alkylbenzensulphonic acid (C 8-15 alkyl) or an alkyl sulphate (C 10-18 alkyl); the alcohol may be aliphatic containing 6-12 carbons. An amine, soluble in water and organic liquids and having a low surface tension, may also be included in the composition.
