Abstract

1,220,555. Electrolytic capacitors. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 10 Oct., 1969 [10 Oct., 1968], No. 49812/69. Heading H1M. In post-forming an electrolytic capacitor by a direct current voltage source connected to the capacitor through a series resistor, the time required is reduced by interrupting the process at least once and at least partly discharging the capacitor through a parallel resistor. As shown the position of movable switch contact 25 actuated by timed driving gear 26 determines whether capacitor or bank of capacitors 11 to be post-formed are being charged by voltage source 14 or discharged through resistor 24. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) a single resistor (28) taks the place of both series resistor 21 and parallel resistor 24. It is suggested that the discharge annuls the polarization of the anode occurring during charging.
