Abstract

867,563. Valve pulse generating circuits. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 3, 1960 [Feb. 6, 1959], No. 3847/60. Class 40(6) In a circuit for the pulse modulation of a magnetron 7, a capacitive element 1 is successively discharged through the magnetron 7 under control of a first switch such as 6 in parallel with a series combination of a second switch such as 10 and a resistor 3, the second switch being closed before the first switch. The circuit described is suitable for generating short duration pulses. Capacitor 1 is charged from the supply E via resistors 2, 3, 4, resistors 3, 4 having preferably the same value. The switching tube 10 is fired first by a synchronizing pulse from source 11, discharging the stray capacitance 8 to half its voltage and charging stray capacitance 9 to half voltage. The half voltage provided across the magnetron is insufficient to cause appreciable current. After a period determined by the delay circuit 12, the switching tube 6 is fired, discharging capacitor 1 through the magnetron 7 and completing the charge and discharge of the stray capacitance 9, 8. The provision of tube 10 reduces the anode dissipation of tube 6 due to stray capacitance charge and discharge to one quarter.
