Abstract
1,219,934. Die sets. MALEW ENG. Ltd. 28 March, 1969 [26 April, 1968], No. 19930/68. Heading B3W. A die set comprises top and bottom main bolster plates 10, 11 for mounting on the platens of a press and having complementary aligning bushes and pillars (not shown), one of the main plates, as shown bottom plate 11, having a supplementary bolster plate 14, for supporting a respective tool half 19 bolted to it at 13 so as to allow at least limited adjustment in any direction parallel to the plane of the plate 11 and the other main plate 10 having along all of its edges thrust members 22 for retaining and adjusting a respective tool half 27 when it is in position abutting the plate 10. The bolt holes 16 in the plate 14 as shown are merely clearance holes but may be elongated. The thrust members comprise jack screws 26 located in tapped holes 24 in a bar 23 fixedly secured to the plate 10 and abutting a movable bar 25. At least the plate 10 has a hardened backing plate 28. The punch half 19 is screwed to the plate 14 and carries locating pillars 21 which engage in bushes on the die half 27. When the punch 19 is formed in the die apertures (not shown), complementary to punches carried by the die 27 for simultaneously punching out and piercing a shank, the supplementary bolster plate 14 is formed with openings registering with the die apertures in the punch 19 and is spaced from the main bolster plate 11 by parallel bars 15, the spaces between the bars registering with the openings in the supplementary bolster 14.
