Abstract

1,219,856. Combustion apparatus. MOBIL OIL CORP. Aug. 28, 1968 [Aug. 28, 1967 (3)], No.41042/68. Heading F1L. [Also in Divisions H3 and H4]. An acoustic source for subsea exploration (see Division H4) comprises a chamber 25 into which diesel fuel is injected from supply 145 for ignition by glow plug 141, thereby to augment the gas pressure initially established by compressed air from supply 45. The pressure is released suddenly after combustion, by de-energizing solenoid 36 to free valve closure member 27. The air and diesel fuel supplies to the chamber are via valves 47, 146 controlled by timer 54.
