Abstract

1,219,064. Valves. BELL AEROSPACE CORP. 3 Sept., 1969 [17 Oct., 1968], No. 43628/69. Heading F2V. A control valve cuts off the supply of fluid to a load under fault conditions when the rates of flow to and from the load differ materially. The valve has a force generating means in both feed conduit 31 and return conduit 42, which means normally act oppositely on levers 39, 45 to maintain closure member 55 off seat 56. When the flow rate through conduit 40 drops sufficiently to cause lever 39 to be pivoted clockwise, the valve closes. The force generating means consist of fixed restrictions, formed by projections 38, 44 on the casing co-operating with movable pistons 36, 43, which produce pressure drops across, and thereby forces on, the pistons in proportion to the flow rates. Piston 36 also has a spring loaded ball closure 51 which forms a variable restriction to improve the linearity of the device (see Fig. 2a, not shown). In a modification (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) fixed orifice (68) are incorporated in piston type variable restrictors (69) which are mounted in a casing remote from the closure member (75) which is actuated by a piston (76) acting on a lever (79) in opposition to a piston (101) which acts on a lever (93). A dash pot (81) damps movement of the piston (76).
