Abstract

1,218,805. Oxygen-steelmaking. FLINTKOTE CO. Jan. 24, 1968 [Jan. 24, 1967], No. 3785/68. Heading C7D. Dissolution of lime in the slag in a basic furnace is accelerated by charging to the slag an oxide of boron or a substance containing such an oxide or which yields such an oxide under the conditions prevailing in the furnace. The additive may be charged simultaneously with the lime, immediately prior therto, or may be incorporated with the lime. Preferred additives are boron trioxide, boric acid or anhydrous borax.
