Abstract

1,218,461. Bearings. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. 26 April, 1968 [28 April, 1967], No. 19784/68. Heading F2A. [Also in Division A4] A worm shaft 17 in a windscreen wiper drive mechanism, or other shaft subjected to an axial thrust during operation in a drive mechanism comprising a driving motor and a gear unit, carries at its end a plastics bearing member 22 having a surface substantially at right angles to the shaft axis which surface engages a fixed bearing surface, e.g. on a screw 21 (Fig. 1, not shown) in the gear housing. The bearing member 22 is of mushroom shape and has a flat annular surface 26 engaging the end of the shaft 17. The shank 23 extends into a recess 24 in the shaft 17 having a space for lubricating grease which passes through a bore 31 in the member 22 to the bearing surfaces. In an alternative embodiment the grease is contained in the bore 31 only, which is closed at its inner end. In a further construction the bearing member is cup-shaped and fits on an end portion of the shaft of reduced cross-section.
