Abstract
1,218,362. Scrubbing gases. RUHRCHEMIE A.G. 9 Jan., 1968 [12 Jan., 1967], No. 1295/68. Heading B1R. In a process for scrubbing gases employing the apparatus described in Specification 920,203 (see Group XII) there is maintained above the inner cylindrical body a layer of a mixture of gas and scrubbing liquid having a height of from 1 to 1.5 times the diameter of the vertical cylindrical tube by adjusting the velocity of the rotating gas in the annular space surrounding the inner cylindrical body so that a centrifugal number z of at least 95 results, z being calculated by the equation:- Z=2u/g.d. wherein u represents the average circumferential velocity of the rotating gas in said annular space, g is the acceleration due to gravity and d is a mean diameter calculated by the equation:- d=(d 1 -d 2 )<SP>1</SP>/ (d1 wherein d, is the outer and loge(-) (d 2 ) d 2 is the corner diameter of the cross-section of the said annular space. Preferably the value of z is at least 100 and the value of u is between 18 and 30 m/sec, preferably between 20 and 25 m/sec.
