1,217,895. Delivering sheets; endless conveyers. MASCHINENFABRIK GOEBEL G.m.b.H. 20 March, 1968 [21 March, 1967], No. 13646/68. Headings B8A and B8R. Sheet-delivery apparatus comprises two sets of successive conveyer belts, the distance between which at the junction thereof being variable so that sheets may be selectively delivered to either of two pile receivers. Fig. 1 is a side elevation of apparatus in which sheets are transported from, e.g. a printing press or cutter, by belts 1, 2, and are to be delivered to either of two pile boards 24, 25. Two sets of conveyer belts 3, 14 are arranged as shown to pass over guide rollers 5, 6, 7, 8, and 16, 17, 18, 19; the drive is provided by rollers 4, 15, respectively, tensioning by rollers 9, 22; looping rollers 12, 21 counterbalance any changes in the effective conveying lengths. The belts also pass over tables 13, 23 which may be suctiontables and round rollers 10, 20 which are horizontally displaceable to the positions 10<SP>1</SP>, 20<SP>1</SP>. Each set of belts is preferably arranged so that the belts of the first set are staggered with respect to the belts of the second set and may interengage when the sets approach each other. The rollers 10, 20 may adopt any one of three arrangements (Fig. 2, not shown) in response to control devices which may act when a pile is complete, or when a predetermined number of sheets has been delivered. An alternative embodiment has roller 20 stationary in the 20<SP>1</SP> position, when only roller 10 is displaceable. The rollers may have peripheral grooves for receiving the belts, or they may be formed of individual discs or pulleys carried on a shaft.
