Abstract

1,216,639. Fluoroformates. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 22 May, 1969 [14 June, 1968] No. 26091/69. Heading C2C. Alkyl and cycloalkyl fluoroformates are prepared by reaction of an alcohol with COF 2 and/or COClF in the presence of at least an equivalent quantity of isobutene at - 20‹ to + 80‹ C. and under a presence of 0À1 to 50 excess atmospheres. The process is preferably carried out continuously by pumping the reactants into a pressure vessel. The reaction product is preferably continuously released into a vacuum via an intermediate vessel. The product may be purified by distillation. Specified products are methyl, n-butyl, t-butyl and cyclohexyl fluoroformates. Tert-butyl chloride is obtained as a by-product.
