Abstract

1,216,359. Magnetic fasteners. KINKEAD INDUSTRIES Inc. 5 Dec., 1968 [8 Jan., 1968], No. 57861/68. Heading E2A. A magnetic door latch for holding together a pair of edge members 11, 12 comprises in combination, an armature 46 secured on one of the members, a magnet 45 on the other member, the magnet being formed of a pair of pole pieces 47 sand wiching a magnetised core 48, the pole pieces each having an edge adapted to abut the armature when the edge members are latched, the pole pieces and the core having aligned centrally disposed holes 51, a retainer 50 for the magnet including a mounting pin 52 passing freely through the aligned holes so as pivotally and tiltably to mount the magnet. As shown, as applied to a pair of aluminium edge members 11, 12 defining the closing edges of a double-panelled shower door 16, the magnet 45 is held by the retainer 50 for limited pivotal and tilting movement between internal flanges 39, 41 and 57, 58 of the member 12, for co-operation with the armature 46 secured in the edge of. member 11. The retainer 50 is formed as a one piece part of flexible plastics material which is folded about the pieces 47 and the pin 52 is engaged with the holes 51.
