Abstract
1,216,071. Radio absorbers. L. WESCH. 5 Sept., 1962 [5 Sept., l961], No. 34106/62. Heading H4A. An absorber for a high-frequency electromagnetic wave is formed of balls, each of which has an electrically non-conducting core covered with a binder layer containing a filler having suitable electrical and/or magnetic properties. An outer layer is formed of insulating lacquer. The core may be formed of synthetic plastic or rubber, carbonyl iron or soft magnetic ferrites providing the magnetic characteristics while high conductivity is produced by graphite and carbon black. The balls are mounted in chambers, e.g. tubes or double walled plates, provided with honey-comb partitions. The balls may be progressively graded, in respect of their electrical and magnetic characteristics, in the direction of the incident radiation and may be given other than spherical shapes. In addition their sizes may be chosen so as to induce diffraction and dispersion of specific wavelengths.
