Abstract

1,216,070. Extraction hoods; air curtains. CLAUDE B. SCHNEIBLE CO. 29 Dec., 1969 [23 June, 1969], No. 63046/69. Headings F4V and F4X. In extraction hood apparatus comprising an extraction hood 11 having an exhaust intake 12 above a casting 13 or other source of smoke, fumes, dust &c., and an air discharge opening 16 adjacent the intake 12 for providing an air curtain between the operator and the source of contamination, adjustable means are provided to ensure that at least some of the air from the discharge opening reaches the operator for cooling same when required. The velocity and thus the direction of the air discharged can be controlled by a closure baffle 20 which is movable between a fully open position A and a restricting position B. Directing of the cooling air towards the operator may additionally or alternatively be accomplished by moving hinged deflectors 17 to the desired position. The intake 12 is provided with spaced louvers (15, Fig. 3) and is connected to a suction source. Air introduced through conduit 19 is supplied under pressure to the discharge opening 16.
