Abstract

1,216,056. Flash-bulbs. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. Sept. 8, 1969 [Sept. 6, 1968], No.44345/69. Heading G2L. In a percussively ignitable flash-bulb of the type in which the primer comprises a metal tube 10 sealed into the end of the envelope 2 and containing a quantity of fulminating material 14, a refractory member 24 is supported within the envelope adjacent the end of the tube to deflect high-velocity particles produced by the combustion of the material 14 and to prevent hot particles produced by the combustion of the filamentary zirconium 16 from entering the tube. The member 24 is preferably a glass bead fused to the anvil wire 12 which carries the fulminating material. To protect the end of the tube 10 during ignition it is sealed and embedded in the glass of the envelope.
