1,213,545. Luminescent materials and uses thereof. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. 27 May, 1968 [5 June, 1967], No. 25270/68. Heading C4S. [Also in Division H1] A discharge lamp has a coating 6 of activated ZrO 2 which reflects visible light and fluoresces under U.V. light of below 3100 Š on part only of the inside surface of the light-transmitting envelope 2, and a further coating 7 of fluorescent material over the first-mentioned coating. The ZrO 2 is preferably activated by firing at a temperature of 2000‹ F. or above in the presence of a trace of Ti. The coating 7 may be extended to cover the internal surface of the aperture portion 8 of the envelope 2 (Fig. 3, not shown).
