Abstract
1,215,323. Making wire drawing blocks; drawing. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 1 Nov., 1967, No. 49538/67. Headings B3A and B3P. [Also in Divisions B1-B2 and C6-C7] A wire drawing block has a wear resistant refractory coating having a lamellar microstructure, a hardness of 850-1300 V.P.N. and a minimum thickness of 0À010 inch. In one example, a steel drawing block, which may be stepped, is rotated and coated with chromia by a plasma arc torch fed with powdered chrome oxide. After cooling the block with carbon dioxide, it is sanded, ground or ground and lapped. In another example, a steel drawing block is coated with 40% ferrochrome-60% tungsten carbide.
