Abstract

1419982 Sintered carbide composition TELEDYNE INDUSTRIES Inc 12 Jan 1973 [14 Feb1972] 1846/73 HeadingC7A A sintered carbide composition consists of a carbide of the form (Ti x Mo y ) C z with the mole fractions for Ti and Mo (x and y) and the value for Z being such that the composition falls within the area EFGHE in Fig. 1, bound by 5-25 wt per cent (based on the total composition) of an iron group metal (FeCoNi). The Ti may be partially replaced by up to 20 mole % thereof of V or by up to 30 mole % of one or more of Hf, Nb or Ta; the Mo may be partially replaced by up to 50 mole % there of of W or by up to 10 mole % of the Mo + W content of Cr; and the C may be partially replaced by up to 25 atom % thereof of N. The composition may be coated with wear resistant carbide or nitride refractory metal compositions.
