Abstract

1,214,961. Sintered alloys. STACKPOLE CARBON CO. Jan.30, 1969 [March 28, 1968], No. 5163/69. Headings C7A and C7D. An electric contact, especially for circuit breakers used as switches, is composed of a sintered body having a density at least 90% of theoretical and consisting, by volume, of Ag 15-60% Ti carbide 30-55% Ni 8-40% Mo 0À1-10% In modifications, the Ag is replaced by Cu and the Mo by W, volume-for-volume. In the example, a blend of, by weight, Ag 40%, Ti carbide 30%, Ni 22À5% and Mo 7À5%, all in the form of -325 mesh powders, is mixed with dry wax, the mixture is pilled at 10 tsi, and then sintered for 5 minutes in a non-oxidizing atmosphere at 1375‹C. The other composition which is specified consists of by volume, Ag 30%, Ti carbide 46%, Ni 19% and Mo 5%. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1, 141, 626.
