1346758 Sintered contacts ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 21 May 1971 [24 Feb 1970] 8800/70 Heading C7D [Also in Division H1] A vacuum-interrupter contact has a contact surface portion made of a material which comprises particles of a semi-refractory metal in which are dispersed from 1 per cent to 5 per cent by weight of particles of a refractory metal, the particles being compacted and sintered under vacuum, and the sintered compact being infiltrated under vaccum with a non-refractory metal. The non-refractory metal consists of or includes as a main constituant, copper, silver or an alloy of copper and/or silver. The semi-refractory metal consists of, or includes as a main constituent, chromium, chromium mono-boride, cobalt or a combination thereof. The refractory metal consists of or includes as a main constituent, tungsten, molybdenum or tantalum and I may have a particle size of À001 to 01 inch being granules consisting of sintered particles. The surface portion may be formed by making a sintered compact from a mixture of semirefractory metal powder, e.g. chromium, and the refractory particles and infiltrating the compact with the non-refractory metal, e.g. to provide a copper content of 20 per cent to 41 per cent by weight.
