An incinerator comprising a combustion chamber 10 having an access door 12, includes an horizontal running track means 18 one or more kiln carts or cars 20 which form the incinerator hearth arid are for carrying waste material into said combustion chamber when door 12 is open. Each car 20 is effectively a slab 22 of refractory material such as ceramic material mounted on wheels or other runners 24.
