Abstract
1,213,477. Ignition systems; timing ignition. COMPAGNIE DES COMPTEURS. Dec.6, 1967 [Dec. 13, 1966], No.55462/67. Heading F1B. An ignition timing device for an internal combustion engine comprises current producing means for supplying an electrical current to a capacitance commencing at an instant when the piston reaches a predetermined position, the valve of the current being proportional to w (a+ bw), where w is proportional to the speed of the engine and a and b are constants, and threshold means for producing an ignition signal in response to the voltage on the capacitance reaching a threshold value. As shown the circuit includes three transistors T 1 , T 2 , T 3 arranged to be cut off when the piston reaches a predetermined position. Connected across capacitor C is a threshold device ST which may be for example a unijunction transistor Schmitt trigger, tunnel diode or the like, which acts wherever the voltage across the capacitor C reaches the triggering voltage V s of the device ST, to produce a spark, through the agency either of transistors which interrupt the primary current of an ignition coil or of thyristors permitting a capacitor to discharge across the primary of an ignition coil.
