Abstract

1,212,087. Pipe couplings. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. 9 Feb., 1968 [11 Feb., 1967], No. 6557/68. Heading F2G. A pipe coupling, particularly for connecting a compressed-air base in two-conduit air braking systems, comprises a body 2 of generally cupshape and adapted to support a seal 22, for engagement with a similar seal on a mating coupling head (not shown), and also being formed with a coupling claw 4 which on rotation of the body about the axis 6 engages a similar claw formation on the mating coupling head, and a tubular connecting member 7 which is arranged substantially at right angles to the axis 6 and is connected by welding or soldering to the body 2. The connecting member has a bulge 8 to facilitate the securing of a hose to its free end. In the embodiment of Fig. 1, the connecting member is fitted in an aperture in one side of the cup formation in the body 2 and is further supported in an aperture in a bracket 12 having a flange 13 parallel with a surface 11 of the body 2, the parts 2, 12 and 7 together with a metal retaining ring 19 for a flange 21 of the seal 22 then being gas soldered together in a single operation, the flange 13 being soldered to the surface 11 on opposite sides of a raised central portion which accommodates a spring clip 16 having one end which projects through an aperture 17 in the claw 4 to engage the mating claw for locking the coupling. In a second embodiment (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown), a strap (35) replaces the bracket 12 and the spring clip (39) is a plate spring carrying a locking bolt (41). In the embodiment of Fig. 5, the tubular connecting member 57 is closed at the coupling head end and is flattened at least on the side facing the cup-shaped body 52, which has a mating flat surface 54. The body and connecting member, also an annular seal retaining member (not shown), are then soldered together, mating apertures 55, 58 in the body and connecting member providing for the flow of air from the coupling head to a hose which is secured via screw-threaded end 56 to the connecting member. In the further embodiment of Fig. 8, the seal 64 is retained by an apertured plate 68 which is integral with the claw and is soldered to a body 62 which is formed with an`upturned flange 67, the connecting member 66 being supported in apertures in the body and flange prior to the parts 62, 66 and 68 being soldered together. Welding instead of soldering may be used.
