Abstract

1,211,898. Cathode-ray tubes. M-O VALVE CO. Ltd. 2 June, 1969 [21 June, 1968], No. 29755/68. Heading H1D. A cathode-ray tube with a target which may be a luminescent screen includes a conductive area on the internal surface of the envelope e.g. coatings 5 and 6, connected to electron gun electrodes 9 and 11 and coating 14 for example, at least part of the area forming a capacitance with a conductive material e.g. coating 18, on the external surface of the envelope. The capacitance is normally part of a smoothing circuit for the potential to a gun electrode. At least part of the internal conductor is resistive and of generally helical form so as to provide a resistance between the capacitance and gun electrode, particularly to limit the current to modulating electrode 12 in the event, of flashovers between the gun electrodes. Helical carbon coating 16 may be of at least 1000 ohms resistance and is connected to graphite coatings 6 and 14. Aluminium coating 5 extends two thirds the length of the bulb 1. Coating 16 and the uncoated surface of neck 2 may be coated with chromic oxide as a protection against electrostatic charging.
