Abstract
1448223 Cathode-ray tubes FERRANTI Ltd 16 Jan 1974 [23 Jan 1973] 3370/73 Heading H1D In a cathode-ray tube having a final anode which has a significant associated capacitance, and a resistor connected in series with the anode to protect external electrical components from inadvertent current surges generated within the tube, the resistor is printed on to an insulating substrate which is secured within the envelope of the tube. As described, Fig. 1, the resistor 30 is printed on the outer surface of an insulating cylinder through which the electron beam passes, and is connected at its ends to the final anode 20 of the gun, and to the inner and outer graphite or aluminium envelope coatings 23 and 25 via springs 31 and contact 24, the inner wall of the insulating cylinder being coated with chromic oxide to prevent electrostatic charging. In other embodiments, the resistor 30 may be displaced from the axis of the tube, Fig. 3, the beam passing through a shielding metal cylinder 41, and an insulating support 40 being provided, symmetrically disposed with respect to the resistor, to increase rigidity; or one to three resistors and insulating supports may be arranged in an equiangular arrangement (Fig. 6, not shown).
