Abstract

1,211,662. Laminates. PPG INDUSTRIES Inc. 25 Feb., 1969 [26 Feb., 1968], No. 9894/69. Heading B5N. [Also in Divisions C3 and C4-C5] An adhesive for laminating chip-board and a phenolic resin decorative laminate is made by masticating 100 parts by weight of a tolueneinsoluble chloroprene polymer and mixing with 10-250 parts by weight of a compatible, solvent-soluble resin and solvent with high energy until homogeneous. The resin may be a polystyrene, a phenolic resin, a rosin derivative, terpene resin, ketone resin, or coumaroneindene resin. The polychloroprene can be one as made with a high gel content and high molecular weight or can be a conventional toluenesoluble chloroprene polymer which has been chemically cross-linked. The adhesive is applied by spraying. The chloroprene polymer may be a copolymer of chloroprene with another diene, acrylonitrile or methacrylic acid. The adhesive may also be used in the lamination of metals, plastics, rubber, wood, fibreboard, hardboard, glass fibre mats, flat glass, enamelled surfaces, asbestos, concrete sheets, cement, asbestos board, perlite, vermiculite, linoleum, leather, paper sheets or honeycomb and resinimpregnated paper honeycomb.
