Abstract

1,211,165. Adjusting vehicle height. GENERAL MOTORS CORP. 11 Oct., 1968 [13 Nov., 1967], No. 48233/68. Heading B7D. [Also in Division E1] Variation in the maximum upward reach of a shovel assembly pivotally mounted at 28 on the front of the vehicle of a shovel loader can be made because the front axle 14 of the vehicle is so connected to the chassis of the vehicle by swing members 54 that the axle 14 is pivotable about an axis 60 extending transversely of the machine when jacks 70 extending between the front of the chassis and the ends of the axle are actuated to cause the front of the vehicle to move upwards or downwards. The pivot points 72, 74 of the jacks 70 on the chassis and the axle and the pivot points 67, 68, 64 of the A-shaped swing members 54 with the axle and the chassis are such as to accommodate swinging of the chassis about a longitudinal axis on differential actuation of the jacks 70, such lateral swinging being facilitated by mounting the rear axle on the chassis to permit such movement about said axis.
