A fork lift device adapted to be detachably mounted on the front of a lorry 1 comprises a mast assembly amounted on a transverse beam which is supported on steerable or castor wheels 11 and which is connected by pivoted links 4A, 4B to brackets 6 on the front axle 3 of the lorry. The mast assembly is adapted to be raised from the ground by hydraulic rams 24. A fork-supporting frame 21 is pivotable about an axis 20 on the lifting carriage by hydraulic rams 23.
