Abstract
1,209,583. Shielded transport flasks. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 4 Feb., 1969 [20 Feb., 1968], No. 5841/69. Heading B4Q. A flask for transporting radio-active waste in an ash can comprises a lead bell 1 closed at the bottom by two roller-mounted slides 5, 7 operated by jacks 23. A manually-operable winch 43, controlled by a pawl 55 actuated by a lever 59, controls a cable 49 carrying a grab 51 whereby an ash can 61 may be raised by its hook 63 through an aperture 21 in the flask base 19 and into the bell 1. A pair of diametrically opposite lugs 65 on the ash can co-operate with guide surfaces 67 on the interior of the bell 1 so that the ash can takes up a particular orientation. This orientation causes two pairs of doors provided at the lower end of the ash can (Figs. 4, 5, not shown) to be unlatched when the slides 5, 7 are opened to discharge the ash can contents, this latch cooperating with grooves formed in the upper surface of the slides. The ash can 61 has at its upper end a removable cover (Fig. 3, not shown).
